About the Job
Desert Valley Hospice & Palliative Care is growing and looking for a strong, organized, compassionate Director of Nursing to help lead our hospice clinical team.
This is a key leadership position for someone who understands hospice, knows how to manage nurses and interdisciplinary care, and can keep the team organized, compliant, and focused on excellent patient care.
We are looking for a DON who can step in quickly, take ownership, support field staff, help with admissions and recertifications, prepare for QAPI/survey readiness, and make sure patients and families receive the level of care they deserve.
This is a great opportunity for a hospice nurse leader who wants to be part of a locally owned, growing hospice with a hands-on leadership team.

Responsibilities

The Director of Nursing will:
  • Lead and supervise hospice nurses, CNAs, and clinical staff
  • Oversee patient care, admissions, recertifications, discharges, and clinical documentation
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare hospice regulations, agency policies, and survey requirements
  • Participate in IDG/IDT meetings and help coordinate patient care plans
  • Support QAPI, chart audits, infection control, emergency preparedness, and ongoing staff education
  • Assist with scheduling, staffing, case management, and clinical problem-solving
  • Communicate with physicians, families, facilities, referral sources, and the hospice team
  • Help build systems so nothing is missed clinically, operationally, or compliance-wise
  • Mentor nurses and hold the team accountable in a positive, professional way

Qualifications

  • Current Arizona RN license required
  • Hospice experience strongly preferred
  • Prior DON, clinical manager, case manager, or hospice leadership experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of hospice eligibility, documentation, IDG, recertification, and compliance
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Organized, dependable, and able to start quickly
  • Comfortable working in a growing company where leadership needs to be hands-on
  • Must be compassionate with patients but also firm and organized with staff expectations
